You’re Reacting Instead of Responding to User Reviews

This one can have big repercussions. The immediacy of customer reviews on social media via apps can have brand managers reacting too quickly when they receive notifications while standing in line at Starbucks. The temptation to strike back without thought against a negative social media marketing 2014 customer review is hard to resist. When you know that everything that the customer said is laid out there on a network’s newsfeed for all followers (theirs and yours) to see restraint is not the first thought that comes to mind. Instead of jumping into quick defensive reaction mode slow down and take the proper time to investigate the cause of the negative review (is it legit?). Once assessed, craft a well thought out response that addresses best social media marketing the issue while instituting damage control measures so that the situation does not escalate on the social platform. Keep calm and count to ten before ever responding to a negative review posted about your business on social media.

You’re Posting Too Much Content Too Soon

It is great that you are excited about posting content on your social networks every day. It is absolutely recommended that you do. You will want to post your own unique content and share related posts of others often throughout the day, spread out amongst all of your social profiles. However many brands have taken this mandate and ran with it a little too much, too often. It is important to understand that every social network has a different set of rules when it comes to content frequency. Twitter for example, is a great platform for posting content every hour. Pinterest is also more accommodating to such practices, marketing by social media when the content (photos/images) is great. Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram users are not as welcoming to content being posted hourly by brands and they will be quick to unfollow those that do. Keep those to one (Instagram)or two (Facebook/LinkedIn) posts per day. The daily active user base on Google+ is lighter, so you can get away with a bit more there, posting content every 3 hours without repercussion from those in your Circles. Then there are channels social media marketing such as Reddit which have strict guidelines in place ensuring that profiles with low Karma scores do not post too often. Understanding the nuances of each social network and embracing that “less is more” for some more than others will be a key to your content marketing success on social media.
